How to report an error and what happens next.
We correct errors quickly and visibly.
Report an error
Email corrections@factfiled.com with the page address and what you believe is wrong. Include the document that supports the correction if you have it. We acknowledge every report within one business day.
What we do
- Factual errors are corrected within 24 hours of confirmation. The correction is noted in the "Updates" section of the page with the date and what changed.
- Substantive updates (a deadline moved, an amount changed, a recall expanded) are logged the same way, and the page's modified date is updated only when the content changed.
- Errors of omission or emphasis are reviewed by the editor and, where warranted, the page is revised with a note.
- Retraction requests receive a documented response within 48 hours.
What we do not do
We do not silently edit published pages. Typographical fixes that do not change meaning are made without a note; anything that changes a fact, a number or a date is logged.
Corrections log
Each page shows its own log under "Updates". Significant corrections across the site are also listed here as they occur.
What counts as a correction
A correction changes something the page asserted as fact: a figure, a date, a name, a rule, or the reading of a document. An update records something the world changed after publication: a deadline the agency moved, a recall the manufacturer expanded, a settlement the court approved. Both are logged with the date; only the first is called a correction. When a source document itself is later corrected by the agency or court, the page notes the agency's correction and links the revised document.
How a correction appears
The corrected text is changed in place so no reader is misled by the old version, and the "Updates" section at the foot of the page records what was wrong, what it now says and when it changed. Corrections that alter a headline figure are also noted at the top of the page for seven days. Search engines see the page's modified date only when content changed.
Errors in what others report
We do not correct other outlets, but when a claim about a payment, deadline or program is circulating and the documents contradict it, the Fact checks desk publishes a verdict with the document that settles it.
