Child product recalls: hazard and remedy

Recalls of products children use, from the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recall notices, with the hazard, the number of units and the remedy offered.

Last verified · refreshed weekly

The Consumer Product Safety Commission announces recalls of consumer products in a standard form: the product, the hazard, how many units were sold, and the remedy the company has agreed to provide. The rows below are the recent CPSC recalls of products that children use, from toys and teethers to dressers that can tip over, taken from the CPSC recall list.

Every notice for a child’s product begins the same way: stop using it and take it away from children. Baby product recalls: what parents should check explains the sleep-product standards and how to read a notice; how to get a refund or repair after a CPSC recall covers the claim.

Questions readers ask

What is the first thing to do when a child’s product is recalled?
Stop using it and take it away from the child. Every CPSC notice for a children’s product begins with that instruction, before any refund or repair step.
Do I need a receipt to get a refund on a recalled children’s product?
Usually not. Companies typically ask for a photograph of the product marked “RECALLED”, or of its label or date code, rather than proof of purchase. The notice linked in each row gives the exact steps.
Can I sell or give away a recalled product once it is fixed?
Selling or giving away a recalled product is prohibited, and many recalls require the product to be destroyed and photographed for that reason. Check hand-me-downs against this tracker before accepting them.
