USCIS processing times: every form and office
The time USCIS took to complete 80 percent of its cases, for all 42 forms and every office the agency publishes, with the receipt date that lets you ask about a delayed case.
Last verified · refreshed monthly
USCIS publishes one processing time for each form, category and office: the number of months it took to complete 80 percent of the cases it decided in the previous six months. The figure is a reference point, not a promise; USCIS says so on the tool itself, and cases are generally worked in the order received. This page holds every figure the tool published when it was read on September 6, 2026, 480 combinations across 42 forms, taken from the USCIS processing times tool with data through July 2026.
Two numbers matter for a pending case. The first is the processing time itself. The second is the case-inquiry date: USCIS will not accept a question about a delayed case until the case is older than the time it took to complete 93 percent of cases, and the "inquiry" column gives the receipt date that qualifies today. If your receipt notice is dated earlier than that day, you may submit a case inquiry.
Where a form is decided at the 90 field offices, the table shows the median office and names the fastest and slowest; the complete office lists are on N-400 processing times by field office and I-485 processing times by field office. Service Center Operations (SCOPS) is USCIS's name for casework spread across its service centers, which it no longer reports by location.

What to do
- Find your form, category and office on the receipt notice; the office is the one that sent the notice, not necessarily where you live. Official link
- Compare the receipt date on your notice with the inquiry column. If your receipt is older than that date, USCIS will accept a case inquiry. Official link
- Check the case status page for the receipt number before inquiring; a request for evidence or an interview notice often explains the wait. Official link
- If an inquiry gets no answer after 30 days, the CIS Ombudsman takes requests for help with cases outside normal processing times. Official link
Questions readers ask
- What does "80% of cases completed within" mean?
- USCIS looks at every case of that form, category and office it decided in the previous six months and reports the time within which 80 percent of them were completed. One in five cases took longer. It is a description of recent history, not an estimate for a particular case.
- When can I ask USCIS about my delayed case?
- When your case is older than the time it took to complete 93 percent of cases, a stricter figure than the one on the page. The inquiry column gives the receipt date that qualifies today: if your receipt notice is dated before it, you may submit a case inquiry online.
- How long is the N-400 citizenship application taking?
- As of the July 2026 data, the median field office completed 80 percent of N-400 cases within 11.5 months. The fastest office was Cincinnati OH at 8 months and the slowest was Lawrence MA at 17.5 months. Every office is listed on the N-400 by-office page.
- Why does my office not appear?
- Forms decided at service centers are reported under Service Center Operations or the National Benefits Center rather than by location. Forms decided at field offices are listed on the N-400 and I-485 by-office pages; other field-office forms show the median office here with the fastest and slowest named.
