Ford recalls 41,748 Expedition and Super Duty trucks

A contaminated LED chip in the headlight assembly can cut daytime running lights, parking lights, high beams or low beams. Dealers replace the assembly free; letters are due in late October.

Ford Motor Company is recalling 41,748 vehicles because the headlight assembly may contain a contaminated LED chip that can cut exterior lighting. The recall, filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration as campaign 26V606000 and received on September 22, 2026, covers certain 2025 to 2027 Expedition SUVs and 2026 F-250 SD, F-350 SD, F-450 SD and F-550 SD Super Duty trucks.

What is wrong

NHTSA's summary says the headlight assemblies on the affected vehicles may contain a contaminated LED chip, which can result in a loss of daytime running lights, parking lights, high beams or low beams. Because of that, the vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108, which governs lamps and other lighting equipment. NHTSA states the consequence directly: a loss of exterior lighting can reduce visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix

Dealers will inspect the headlight assemblies and replace them as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on October 26, 2026, and NHTSA says the affected vehicle identification numbers will be searchable on NHTSA.gov that day. Owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332; the company's number for the recall is 26C43.

What to do now

The VIN lookup is the way to know whether a particular vehicle is included, and it will work for this campaign from October 26. Until then, check that your headlights, daytime running lights and parking lights all work before driving at night or in low visibility, and report any failure to a dealer right away rather than waiting for the owner letter. How a vehicle recall remedy works covers what a manufacturer owes owners. The campaign is on the vehicle recalls tracker and the live recall index beside the week's other filings.

What to do

  1. Check your vehicle by VIN once it is searchable on October 26, 2026.
  2. Ask Ford how to get the headlight assembly inspected, at 1-866-436-7332, quoting recall number 26C43. nhtsa.gov
  3. Until it is repaired, check that all your exterior lights work before driving at night or in poor visibility.

Questions readers ask

What exactly fails?
NHTSA’s summary says the headlight assemblies on the affected trucks and SUVs may contain a contaminated LED chip, which can cause a loss of daytime running lights, parking lights, high beams or low beams. The notice does not say which function fails first or whether all four can fail together.
Is my Expedition or Super Duty included?
The campaign covers certain 2025-2027 Expedition and 2026 F-250 SD, F-350 SD, F-450 SD and F-550 SD vehicles, but only vehicles with the affected headlight assembly, so model year alone does not settle it. The VIN lookup will, once VINs are searchable on October 26, 2026.
Does it cost anything?
No. Ford will inspect and, if necessary, replace the headlight assembly free of charge at a franchised dealer.

How a vehicle recall remedy works

Once a safety recall is announced, the law gives the owner a free remedy from the manufacturer. NHTSA’s own guide sets out the obligation, its limits and the complaint route.
