Oracle files WARN notices for 800 workers

Oracle America told California it will lay off 441 workers and Washington 359, all effective November 13. What the state notices say, and what they leave out.

Oracle America, Inc. has told California and Washington it will lay off 800 workers, according to the two states' own WARN records. California's Employment Development Department lists three Oracle notices dated September 14 covering 441 employees, and Washington's Employment Security Department lists one covering 359 in Seattle, received the same day. Every notice is for a permanent layoff, and every one takes effect on November 13, 2026.

What the notices list

California's report of notices processed through September 16 carries Oracle at three sites, all with an effective date of November 13:

  • Redwood City, San Mateo County: 279 employees, at 500 Oracle Parkway.
  • Santa Clara, Santa Clara County: 99 employees, at 4230 Leonard Stocking Drive.
  • Pleasanton, Alameda County: 63 employees, at the Pleasanton campus, 5815 Owens Drive.

Washington's database lists one notice: Oracle America, Inc., Seattle, 359 workers, a permanent layoff starting November 13, received by the department on September 14. Added together, the four notices cover 800 employees. November 13 is exactly 60 days after the notice date, the period the federal WARN Act requires for a mass layoff.

What the records do not say

The notices give a site, a count and a date. They name no teams and no job titles, and they do not say why the layoffs are planned. Oracle has filed no Form 8-K under Item 2.05 in 2026, which is the filing a public company makes when it commits to a restructuring with material costs, so there is no company-wide figure or charge to set against these counts. How to read an 8-K Item 2.05 explains what that filing would carry.

Oracle may also have filed in other states. This page reads California's and Washington's listings; the WARN notices by state page lists which state postings the desk has checked. The 800 is therefore the total of what those two states show, not a count of every Oracle job affected.

Where the notices sit in the state lists

At 279 employees, Oracle's Redwood City notice is the fourth largest single notice in California's report since July 1, behind 24Hr Homecare (738), Jabil (382) and Visa (320). The full list of notices of 100 or more employees is on California WARN notices.

If you are affected

The 60 days between the notice and the effective date are paid, and the clocks that matter start when the job ends, not before. File for unemployment in the first week, check the severance letter for the release and the deadline before signing, and settle health coverage inside the 60-day window that governs both COBRA and a Marketplace plan. The first 30 days after a layoff sets them out in order, and what is negotiable in severance covers the letter. The layoffs tracker records the SEC filings that accompany the largest cuts; for Oracle there is none yet.

What to do

  1. Read the state records for the sites and counts: California’s report lists Oracle under San Mateo, Santa Clara and Alameda counties, and Washington’s database lists it under Seattle. edd.ca.gov
  2. If you work at one of these sites, the notice period is paid work: file for unemployment in the week the job ends, and read any severance agreement before signing it.
  3. If you were laid off with no notice from a covered employer, the WARN rules give a claim for back pay and benefits for up to 60 days; how they work is set out on this desk.

Questions readers ask

Does the notice mean all 800 people lose their jobs on November 13?
It means Oracle has told the states that layoffs of that size at those sites are planned to take effect on that date. The count on a WARN notice is the employer’s figure for the site, not a list of names. Employers amend and sometimes rescind notices, and the number is a maximum for the site.
Where does the 800 come from?
It is the sum of the counts on four notices: 279, 99 and 63 in California and 359 in Washington. Oracle may have filed notices in other states. This page reads only California’s and Washington’s listings, so 800 is the total of the notices found there, not a figure for the whole company.
Why does no document say why Oracle is cutting jobs?
A WARN notice states the site, the number of workers, whether it is a layoff or a closure, and the date; it does not have to give a reason. A public company explains a restructuring in an 8-K Item 2.05 only when it commits to a plan with material charges, and none from Oracle appeared in EDGAR full-text search in 2026 as of September 21.
