Hyundai and Genesis recalls 2026

The 19 safety recalls Hyundai has filed with NHTSA in 2026 on Hyundai and Genesis models, about 1.8 million vehicles, with the defect, the free fix and the campaign number.

Last verified · refreshed weekly

Every vehicle safety recall in the United States is filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration under a campaign number, setting out the defect, the risk it creates and the remedy in the manufacturer's own words. This page reads those records for Hyundai and Genesis and lists every campaign filed in 2026, newest first, whatever the model year. Genesis is included because Hyundai Motor America files its recalls, and one campaign covers both brands.

19 campaigns have been filed so far in 2026, covering about 1.8 million vehicles when each campaign is counted separately. The largest is 26V034000 of January 23: 568,576 Palisade SUVs from the 2020 to 2025 model years whose side curtain air bags for third-row passengers may deploy improperly in a crash. The next is 26V316000 of May 19, 423,062 Santa Cruz and Tucson models whose front camera software can make the collision avoidance system brake unexpectedly.

Three problems recur. Three campaigns, two on Hyundai models and one on Genesis, cover instrument panel displays that can fail because of a software error, fixed over the air or at a dealer. Three cover seat belts: rear buckles on the Kona and the Palisade, and front belt anchors that may detach on the Ioniq 6, Santa Fe and Genesis G90. One, filed on September 11, covers the second-row power seats in the 2026 Ioniq 9, which may not detect a person, especially a child, and keep moving during power-fold. Two cover the high voltage battery in the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 9, and one of those, 26V432000, carries NHTSA's park-outside warning: owners of the six Ioniq 5s it covers are told to park outside, away from structures, and to charge no higher than 80 percent until the battery is replaced.

A campaign covers particular vehicles by their identification number rather than every car of the model, so the only thing that settles whether yours is included is the free VIN lookup. Repairs under a safety recall are free at any dealer of the brand, whatever the age of the car and whether or not you bought it new. How a vehicle recall remedy works covers what to do when a dealer says the parts are not ready yet.

The same page exists for Honda and Acura, Toyota and Lexus and Ford and Lincoln. Kia files its recalls separately, through Kia America, and has its own page; every other make is on the vehicle recalls tracker.

Every 2026 campaign in the NHTSA recall API whose vehicle list includes a Hyundai or Genesis model, found by reading each 2026 campaign number from 26V001000 onward on September 13, 2026, again on September 21, 2026 (580 numbers through 26V595000 carried a public record), and again on September 30, 2026 through 26V613000, the newest NHTSA has published. The vehicles column is NHTSA’s potentially affected count, the population the campaign covers rather than the number found faulty, and 26V218000, which covers both brands, is counted once. The models column lists the Hyundai and Genesis models and years NHTSA records for the campaign. Defect and remedy text is taken from the manufacturer’s filing; the linked NHTSA record is the document.Download CSV

What to do

  1. Put your vehicle identification number into the free federal lookup. A campaign covers specific VINs, so matching the model is not enough. nhtsa.gov
  2. If a campaign is open on your car, book the repair with a Hyundai or Genesis dealer. It is free, and it stays free however old the car is.
  3. If you own a 2023 or 2024 Ioniq 5, check the VIN today: the six cars in campaign 26V432000 should be parked outside and charged to no more than 80 percent until the battery is replaced. nhtsa.gov
  4. The filings give Hyundai customer service as 1-855-371-9460 and Genesis customer service as 844-340-9741. Quote the campaign number when you call.

Questions readers ask

How many Hyundai recalls are there in 2026?
Hyundai Motor America has filed 19 safety recall campaigns with NHTSA so far in 2026 that cover Hyundai or Genesis models, about 1.8 million vehicles when each campaign is counted separately. The largest, 26V034000 of January 23, covers 568,576 Palisade SUVs from the 2020 to 2025 model years.
Are Genesis recalls included?
Yes. Genesis is Hyundai’s luxury brand and Hyundai Motor America files its recalls. Four 2026 campaigns name Genesis models, and one of them, 26V218000 over seat belt anchors that may detach, covers the Genesis G90 alongside the Hyundai Ioniq 6 and Santa Fe.
What is the Palisade air bag recall?
Campaign 26V034000 covers 568,576 Palisade SUVs from the 2020 to 2025 model years whose side curtain air bags for third-row passengers may deploy improperly in a crash, which puts them outside the federal ejection mitigation standard. The filing says dealers will install a protective film over the rear window and remove padding as necessary, free. Interim letters went out beginning March 13, 2026, and the filing says final remedy letters are to be mailed in phases beginning in June 2026.
Why does one Ioniq 5 recall say park outside?
Campaign 26V432000 covers six 2023 and 2024 Ioniq 5s whose high voltage battery cells may contain misaligned electrodes, which can lead to a fire while parked or driving. Hyundai advises owners to park outside and away from structures and to limit charging to 80 percent until dealers replace the high voltage battery system assembly, which is free.
Is Kia on this page?
No. Kia’s recalls are filed separately by Kia America, and every Kia campaign filed in 2026 is listed on the Kia recalls 2026 page.
Do I have to pay for a recall repair?
No. A safety recall repair is free at a franchised dealer, with no time limit and no requirement to be the original owner. If a dealer asks you to pay for a recall remedy, that is a complaint for NHTSA on 1-888-327-4236.
